The Hos may have been a dealt a bad hand when they lost their casino empire, but, like the veteran gamblers they are, these folks know how to make a comeback. MGM Mirage opened its MGM Grand Macau on Tuesday bringing out high rollers from around the globe. The USD 1.3 billion hotel and casino is a joint venture between the Las Vegas-based casino operator and Pansy Ho, daughter of former Macau casino mogul Stanley Ho.

Stanley Ho (Founder and managing director SJM): The elusive billionaire had a 40-year monopoly on Macao gambling and remains one of the world’s biggest casino operators, despite inroads by American companies, such as Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Wynn Resorts Ltd., that have cut his market share nearly in half. Ho is countering with more elaborate casinos, including the Grand Lisboa, which debuted in February, and two outsized casino projects, Oceanus and Ponte 16.

A New Jersey law firm representing Hong Kong businesswoman Pansy Ho has asked three Web hosting companies to take down the Web site of a religious group disseminating negative information about MGM Mirage’s designated business partner in its Macau operations. Gilbert Brooks, an attorney with Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen of Cherry Hill, N.J. sent a letter in late March warning that the Web hosting companies are legally liable for the content of New York-based Family Focus Coalition’s online site.
