Seneca Gaming sees USD 16 million drop in earnings

The Seneca Gaming Corp.’s profits took a hit during the company’s most recent fiscal year. In an annual report filed Monday with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission, the corporation announced a decline in net income of more than USD 16 million for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. Senecas pick up support in casino fight

The Seneca Nation of Indians has landed some powerful support in its effort to keep the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino open and to reverse an earlier order to close the downtown gaming facility. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Erie County Executive Chris Collins and Robert Williams, a top official with the New York State Bureau of Gaming Operations, all filed supporting affidavits as part of the Seneca Nation’s legal brief that opposes the closing of the interim casino.

Senecas await casino ruling

Seneca President Maurice A. John Sr. has issued a request of the National Indian Gaming Commission chairman, who is examining options pertaining to the Seneca Nation of Indians‘ Buffalo Creek Casino. The national agency recently issued a notice of violation to the Nation’s Gaming Corp., meaning the corporation is not meeting the commission’s requirements to operate its Buffalo casino.

Casino Construction Stops

Construction at both the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in Buffalo will cease, report Seneca Gaming Corp. officials Wednesday. Corporation officials report the decision to cease construction was made “in light of various factors“ including “challenging economic and capital market conditions, greater demands on the company’s available cash and increased competition and construction costs.“

Senecas: Buffalo casino open during legal fight

Niagara Falls, New York – The Seneca Indian Nation’s temporary Buffalo casino will remain open and construction of a permanent facility will continue while a court battle over whether they are legal wages on. Seneca President Maurice John said Wednesday that a federal court determination that casino gambling is not allowed on the Buffalo site did not contain an order to close the temporary casino, so for now, it’s business as usual.

Niagara Falls hasn’t received slots cash from Senecas for 2006

Niagara Falls – The Seneca Nation of Indians has not paid the state its share of slot machine revenue from last year, and some local leaders are getting anxious about when the money will arrive. The Senecas’ compact calls for paying the state 18 percent of net slot machine revenue on an “annual basis” for the first four years of casino operations, but it does not specify a date for the payments. That uncertainity has left city officials guessing when they will be able to spend their share.

Seneca Indians unveil USD 333 million casino-hotel plan

Buffalo, New York (AP) – The Seneca Nation of Indians on Wednesday unveiled plans for a USD 333 million casino and hotel in Buffalo _ its third in western New York. Called Seneca Buffalo Creek, the project includes a 22-story hotel tower, a 90,000-square-foot casino and a 2,500-space parking garage on a nine-acre site in downtown Buffalo. The casino and hotel complex, thought to be the most expensive private structure ever built in the city, is slated to open in 2010.

Seneca Indian Nation quietly opens third casino

Buffalo, New York — The Seneca Indian Nation quietly opened its third casino Tuesday, a day after the National Indian Gaming Commission sided with the tribe over opponents who claim it is illegal. Workers labored through the night wiring 124 slot machines inside a small warehouse-type building that will serve as an interim casino while a USD 125 million permanent complex is built over the next year and a half.

Senecas to turn over records

The Seneca Nation of Indians President Maurice John Sr. said Friday the nation will respond to a subpoena from the National Indian Gaming Commission that is seeking records about how gambling revenues are spent. The records were subpoenaed as part of an investigation that involves the Seneca Nation of Indians and the “use of gambling revenues,” said Shawn Pensoneau, a spokesman for the commission. Pensoneau declined to detail what the commission is investigating, but said the scope of the probe is beyond routine audits the federal agency typically conducts.
